Dated wood kitchen transformed with navy cabinets and light worktops
This structurally sound kitchen in Greater Manchester was given a more contemporary finish while retaining its existing units, appliances, tiled floor and layout.

The existing kitchen
The existing kitchen was structurally usable but visually dated, with light wood-effect cupboard doors and drawer fronts, matching visible cabinet areas and dark mottled laminate worktops.
The units, appliances, tiled floor and kitchen layout were all retained. The brief was to modernise the surfaces that shaped the room's appearance rather than remove a serviceable installation.
The transformation
The visible kitchen surfaces were coordinated around deep navy cabinetry, light worktops and black handles and hardware.

Wrapping the coordinated visible areas alongside the cupboard fronts helped the finished room read as one complete scheme.

Refreshing the worktops
The suitable existing laminate worktops were wrapped in a light architectural finish to contrast with the deep navy cabinetry. The two main runs measured approximately 300cm and 185cm, giving a combined main worktop length of about 4.85 metres.
The existing joining strip was removed and the joint was prepared and filled before wrapping to create a cleaner, more continuous appearance.
Worktop wrapping is not suitable for every surface. Condition, edge profiles, joins, sink and hob areas, water and heat exposure and day-to-day use must all be assessed. Why wrapping made sense here
The kitchen units and layout were still serviceable, so this project focused on changing the visible finish. Deep navy cabinetry, light worktops and black hardware produced a substantial visual change without removing the complete kitchen.

The result
The finished scheme replaced the dated light wood and dark-worktop appearance with deep navy cabinetry and a light, contrasting worktop finish. The black handles and hardware sit naturally against the navy film, while the retained appliances, floor and layout show how much the visible surfaces alone changed the room.
Is this approach suitable for every kitchen?
No. Existing surfaces must be assessed before a wrap is specified, and their condition matters. Certain deep profiles, damaged substrates or unsuitable surfaces may not be appropriate for architectural wrapping.
