Residential window-film pricing guide

How Much Does Residential Window Film Cost?

Beespoke Covers has a £225 including VAT minimum residential installation. Larger projects depend on the glass, film, pane count, access and how the film needs to be applied.

Customer-facing examples for Greater Manchester & the North West

There is no useful single “price per window” because homes, panes and film categories vary. A small straightforward project may be covered by the minimum charge; a similar-looking job can cost more if it involves extra panes, roof glazing, specialist glass or difficult access.

Minimum residential installation: £225 including VAT.

This covers the minimum viable visit and installation scope. It is not a fixed price for every small job and it does not confirm that a particular film is compatible with the glass.

Typical customer-facing examples

These examples are useful ballparks, not fixed quotations. They assume straightforward access and a suitable standard film/glass combination. Measurements, glazing, coatings, application side and installation conditions still need checking.

Example projectTypical installed ballpark
2 standard solar-control panes, each approximately 103cm × 110cm£225–£300 inc VAT
4 standard solar-control panes, each approximately 103cm × 110cm£350–£450 inc VAT
4 similar UV/fade-protection panes£350–£450 inc VAT
Around 4.5m² across 7 straightforward solar-control panes£400–£500 inc VAT

The final figure can sit outside these ranges if the actual project differs from the example. We do not publish trade rates, supplier costs or a universal per-square-metre formula because those figures would not give a homeowner a dependable installed price.

What affects the installed price?

Glass area

More film is generally needed for a larger glazed area, but area is only one part of the job. Precise pane measurements also affect cutting, handling and product selection.

Number of panes

Seven separate panes usually involve more measuring, cutting, cleaning and edge work than one large pane with the same total area. Mullions, transoms and frames break the installation into individual sections. This is why two jobs with identical square metres can have different prices.

Film category

Solar-control, neutral or premium solar, clearer heat-control, privacy/frosted, UV/fade-reduction and insulation/Low-E related solutions are different product categories. They do not all have the same appearance, specification or installed cost.

Glass and coating compatibility

The correct film depends on the complete glass build-up, including whether the unit is single or double glazed and whether coatings such as Low-E are present. Low-E glass is not an automatic reason to refuse film, but the glass, coating, film and application side must be assessed as a system. See our Low-E glass and window film guide.

Internal or external application

Some combinations call for internal application; others may require or suit an external product. Access, weather exposure, edge sealing where specified and the chosen product all affect the installation.

Access and roof glazing

Ground-floor panes with clear internal access are different from roof panes, high stairwell glazing or glass above a conservatory. Safe access and working space must be planned. Difficult access can also make measurement and installation slower.

Unusual or specialist glass

Large panes, laminated or toughened glass, existing film, damaged units, misting, unusual shading and specialist coatings all need to be identified. Some projects require further information before any price or product can be confirmed.

How film choice changes the quotation

Standard solar control

Often considered for rooms affected by excessive solar heat or glare. The appropriate visible-light level and reflectivity depend on the room and glass, not just the strongest headline performance.

Neutral or premium solar film

Chosen when the homeowner wants a more neutral appearance or a different balance of daylight, glare and solar performance. “Clearer” does not mean invisible, and suitability still depends on the glazing.

Clear heat-control film

Some products are designed to retain more visible light while addressing solar gain. They can sit in a different product and price category from standard reflective films. We compare the published specification only after checking the glass.

Privacy and frosted film

Frosted film is commonly used where consistent screening matters. Reflective daytime-privacy films rely on the outside being brighter than the inside and should not be sold as night-time privacy. Compare the practical options on our privacy and frosted window film page.

UV and fade-reduction film

Film can form part of a fade-reduction plan, but it cannot prevent all fading. UV is only one contributor; visible light, heat, materials and exposure time also matter. Pricing depends on the suitable product and glazing.

Insulation and Low-E related solutions

Selected films may be considered for year-round glazing performance, but not every film suits every Low-E unit. The building, glass construction, coating location, pane size, orientation and application side all influence the recommendation. Explore the broader solar and insulation window-film service.

What we need for a useful ballpark

Start with the problem you want to solve, the room type and the approximate number and size of panes. Clear photos should show the full windows, frames, access around them and any markings in the glazing spacer bar. Tell us about roof glazing, existing film, damage or misting.

Not sure which film you need? Use our Window Film Selector and, where the project is suitable, get an approximate installed ballpark. The selector helps compare categories and trade-offs; it does not replace the final glass and installation assessment.

A final quotation depends on:

  • confirmed measurements and pane count;
  • glass construction, coatings and condition;
  • selected film and compatible application side;
  • access, roof glazing and working conditions;
  • any unusual or specialist requirements.

Choose the right next step

If you are still comparing the problem and available films, start with the selector. If you already know the category, review the residential window film service, solar and insulation options or privacy and frosted options before sending measurements and photos.
